A Beautiful and challenging course that will test technical ball skill players as well as long hitters. The Rough is not your friend here as it is tall so keep the shots straight and the risks at a minimum. The Front 9 is the old course that is made up of light lies and narrow drives finishing up with a par 4 over a pond to a tight green that will test your metal due to the clubhouse and everyone praying you don’t hook it left into clubhouse or worse into the parking lot lol, the back 9 is way more open with wider fairways and larger greens but way longer holes. Steep slopes and rolling fairways make it interesting. The greens as a whole roll very slow but they are very consistent throughout. Brand new golf carts and super friendly service add to the experience. As of now the cart path on the front 9 is under remodel but is still playable.
Excellent value, state park course
I always love playing here because I grew up here so I’m partial. Very nice staff, very good pace. Very good feel & wind blowing through the pines. Thanks!
Back 9 is best
The front 9 has some challenging holes, especially number 3 with a very narrow tee shot. But it is not a great 9. The back 9 is much better. More challenging, better maintained, and much more beautiful, however there is not very much water, but lots of trees and ravines.
Once the true front but back 9 is in true form, this course will be a definite go to all the time in the spring
The Front nine is the original nine and I had not played this course in over 45 years. The conditions are a little rough on the front. The back nine is much better condition wise. The back nine layout is outstanding. I question distance on the front. Seemed like the course was at least 500 yards longer than the card said. We played whites and that the longest 2900 I’ve ever played. Value was outstanding and so was pace of play. Greens a little slow. They need to clean up the bunkers. If they worked on the course conditions this would be a GEM!
Pennyrile Golf Course
Greens were pitiful !! rough was worse that US Open, had not been cut in weeks. Playing partner lost 10 balls all in long grass not more than 5 yards off the fairway. Saw first snake of the season - 6 feet long going through the tall grass near a dry ditch in the fairway.
Get the hot deal worth the money
Pretty cheap
Fairways were mowed well very clean looking
Rough wasn't super punishing
Easy to score if you keep it in play
Greens were slow
Flags were the dullest colors ive ever seen almost impossible to hit with the range finder on a few holes
There's no range
Worst course I’ve ever played
Started out on hole 10 which I thought was strange considering I was the only one on the course. 10-18 course condition wasn’t too awful except the greens were way too high. Had to putt everything way too strong. But when I got to holes 1-9 the course condition as a whole was worst I’ve ever seen! Fairways too long and if you hit off the fairways good luck even finding your ball on most holes. Was not worth my time or money. Will never come back to this course and I advise anyone reading this not to play this course either
Holes 10 - 18 Were great! Holes 1 - 9 were terrible!
Holes 10 - 18 Were great! Holes 1 - 9 were terrible! There is a difference in daylight and dark between the first nine holes and the second nine. Almost like totally different courses. The front nine are NOT well maintained, the roughs were long and some fairways were so long that it was possible to lose a ball in the fairway.
The cart paths were gravel and very rough and bumpy also.
Terrible condition!
Slowest greens I've ever putted on, bar none. Fairways and rough needed to be mowed! No enjoyment playing this course other than the scenery. I will never play this course again unless they learn how to take care of a golf course. Save your money and play somewhere else.
Worst course I’ve ever played
I have absolutely nothing good to say about this coursework. The fairway grass was so tall you lost balls in the fairway. The layout of the course was extremely confusing and the grounds have not been maintained. I would not recommend this course to anyone!
Warning
If you are thinking about playing this course, please reconsider!
The only thing good about the course were the greens. The fairway grass was so tall that we lost balls in the fairway. There was grass clippings everywhere! It was nearly impossible to see where the fairway actually began and ended. The course layout has change so much that none of the signs tell the truth of where you’re actually shooting.
I would not recommend this course to anyone and I will not be back!
Mtndewmam
Greens are in terrible shape, otherwise all is fine.
Great for the price I paid
Liked the course layout. The rough & some fairways were so high that finding your ball was difficult. You could loose balls on shots that were very close to the greens & very close to the fairway in what would normally be the first cut. I will try playing it again because I feel they may have had rain that prevented them from cutting. THE GOLF CART I USED WAS THE FASTEST MOST FUN CART I HAVE EVER DRIVEN & WAS WORTH THE PRICE OF THE ROUND IN FUN. .
