Pheasant Run Resort is one of the Chicago area's most respected resorts. It offers an 18-hole golf course that is playable for a wide range of skill levels. The course is short at just over 6,300 yards from the back tees, but it still provides a fair amount of challenges. The fairways are tight and there are water hazards that come into play on a few holes. The bunkering is minimal but strategically placed to keep you on your toes. The front of the greens are invitingly wide-open and beginners will also appreciate that they are mostly flat and easy to score on. The golf course starts out with a tricky par 5 that doglegs right past the 200-yard marker and there is a water hazard that crosses the fairway. The back nine is slightly longer and also more challenging.

Overall great experience
This is a great course. Great staff. Course was very clean. Leave yourself free for any time in December. You will not be disappointed.
Great greens great fall value
Have not played here in a few years and was impressed with the quality and condition of the greens ( your neighbor down the street Prairie Landing should take note as their greens are AWFUL)
Fairway condition and tees very good for November. I play year long at country clubs , resorts and public fee courses and felt this was a great value. The course is flat but keeps your interest. If you are looking for great fall value this is it
The course has lots of trees!
A few too many parallel holes that are only separated by a line of trees can be really challenging on windy days like we had yesterday. The trees drop their leaves and really make finding your ball an adventure.
The drinking water was scarce, that's annoying.
Pheasant run
Nice course for the Golfnow price. Fairly easy course flat with large fairways. Very friendly staff and starter.would never pay the normal rate of 45 dollars for it. Beer was way over priced at 4 dollars a beer
Long Par 3's
Tee Time: 11:37 on a Saturday ($38)
Pheasant Run should lose the "Resort" because nothing about the facilities says, "I am so happy to have left home for this". In terms of the course, I thought it was solid. The greens were well kept and rolled true. I felt there was a nice mixture of sand traps, water and trees. Fairways were hard and chewed up at spots. If you play from the blues, almost all of the par 3's provide a challenge to those who struggle with the 200+ yard shots. There are in-ground markers for every 25 yards, which makes up for there not being GPS systems on the carts (although that could be a nice addition). Bonus points for the driving range, chipping green, and putting greens on-site.
Good time
The course was in very good condition. The staff were very friendly and took good care of us. A few hidden water holes, but all in all a very nice course.
Fun Course
Course doesn't beat you up and is in good condition. It is fun to play with a good mixture of short and long holes. We will go back
Too many groups and slow pace of play.
Due to tee times being too close together and the horrible golfers ahead of my group, the pace of play was extremely slow! Waiting on the tee box for one group to get off the green, another in the fairway, and another on the tee box. Not one ranger came out to try and pick up the pace despite callin the club house and requesting them to do so. It is a nice course to play, however I recommend playing only on weekdays.
Not bad for the money
Our foursome included two beginner golfers (female) who don't get to play very often. I should also preface this review by acknowledging that we booked a Hot Deal offer for only $27/person.
Having played this course once before, I was surprised to see that the course condition was not much different almost a year later (very average). The greens were a bit slow -- although rolled well -- and the fairways were longer than preferred. The rough was punitive, which is kind of the point, but playable. Overall, however, this is not the condition of a "resort course" that I would prefer.
Pace of play was wonderful. We played at 1:00pm on a pleasant day and had no issues with being rushed or waiting too long on any tee box. This was very welcoming for the two beginners in our group and provided a stress-free atmosphere.
Prices on beverages/food were high ($6 for a beer??) but readily available due to a centralized Refreshment Shack in the middle of the property.
While not the nicest course in the area, this course is a good option for golfers of any skill level.
Good Round
The course was good overall. The greens were true, the fairways were good, but the tee boxes were rough. The staff was helpful and kind. The course layout was hard considering they start you out on the hardest hole. Other than that I had no complaints. Good course that is worth the price.
Worst golf experience ever
Just finished playing this so called resort course. Very confusing to find the pro shop to begin. Checked in and told to see the guy in the blue shirt. Walked up to him but he then drove away. Finally came back gave him my receipt wanted a small receipt no idea what that was. Then asked if we were walking or taking a cart. We payed for a cart which was on the receipt. Then was just told take a cart and go. Course conditions were horrible. I have never lost so many balls and the tee box was so hard I broke every tee used. I would hit it straight see it land then not be able to find my neon yellow ball. Pace was horrible. I am not in a rush ever but every tee box had two groups waiting in front of us. Fairways and greens seemed like they hadn't had up keep since 1920. Price was way to high for value. Played last week at villa Olivia which is a ski resort and the course was better maintained than this so called resort. Would take a miracle for me to play here again
Very nice course in a convenient location.
Friendly staff, nice layout and great speed of play. Course is well maintained and offers a variety of challenges. Fantastic course for average golfer.
nice place to golf
.coarse in excellent condition, many groundskeepers on coarse, staff very friendly and courteous. Very impressed, no bugs either and used to be lots of duck dodo, not anymore, clean as a whistle.
Great day
Our threesome walked on the day after the 4th of July and the course was wide open. The greens were in great shape and played fair. Tight tree lined fairways made you go straight.
The course is good for all golfers
The course was in good shape and pace of play was good. The only drawbacks were the gnats and was difficult to find your ball due to lot of tree debris in many fairways.
Resort Course?
To call this place a resort or a "resort course" is kind of comical in my view. I hope people don't travel to golf here. With so many options in Chicagoland, this course needs to step their game up substantially. The layout and design for one is poor; they go from a 230 yard par 3 to a 300ish yard par 4 back to back twice when the holes are on the exact same sight line. With very few exceptions, the course and holes are straight with no character. Overall just kind of lumpy, not manicured well. Only positive is we only paid $30 as a hot deal... Guess you could argue any round is worth $30, but this won't be on my list to play again unless I'm desperate to get a last minute round in
Overall good experience
The course itself was in great condition for this early in the year. I would say the time we went out it was a little unfortunate that the halfway house was closed and their was no beverage cart either. However, they told us that those amenities would be open the upcoming weekend. The only other inconvenience is the distance the driving range is from the actual course...makes it a little tough getting to the clubhouse to check in and then go warm up. Other than that it was great. Staff was extremely helpful and friendly!
Did not play due to ice.
Dear Golf Now, I have 1 question and 1 comment.
Question: early on the 29th there was still some snow and ice on the ground. We did not play due to being unplayable. I did call the course before 8:00 AM and left a voice message at their Pro Shop advising we were not going to bother to show up. I am sure the Pro Shop employees fully understood when they listened to my voice message. In this situation does Golf Now refund the fee I paid or give me a credit?
Separately, I learned today that Pheasant Run has 18 temporary greens all about 50 years short of the normal greens. I was unaware of this when I made my reservation with Golf Now to play there on the 29th. I think it is incredulous and had I known this I would have never even considered trying to play Pheasant Run under such terrible conditions. 1 or 2 temporary greens is okay, but all 18? This is ridiculous. Just wanted you to know this. suggest you take Pheasant Run off of Golf Now until their greens are back in service. Thank you. John Dimasi
